The character of each community
Seaside is the famous one — the planned community with the pastel cottages, the town square, the Airstream food trucks, and the Truman Show connection. It was designed to be experienced as a community, and it works as one. There’s always something happening. The architecture is intentional and beautiful. On any given evening, there are people in the square, music playing somewhere, and restaurants requiring reservations.
Seagrove is older and unplanned — it predates Seaside by decades and has the relaxed, organic feel that comes with that history. It doesn’t have a town square or curated architecture. What it has is a beautiful stretch of beach, a handful of excellent restaurants, and a pace of life that runs slower than Seaside’s even in peak summer.
Crowds and noise
Seaside draws people from across 30A — visitors staying in Rosemary Beach, WaterColor, and even Destin make the drive to spend an afternoon in Seaside’s town square. That means the Seaside beachfront and surrounding area is busier than its residential footprint would suggest. On a July weekend it can feel genuinely crowded.
Seagrove doesn’t have that magnet effect. People staying in Seagrove stay in Seagrove. The beach in front of our building rarely feels crowded even in peak season — there’s no single focal point pulling everyone to the same spot.
The best of both without choosing
The practical answer for most guests is that you don’t have to choose. Staying in Seagrove puts you fifteen minutes on foot from Seaside — close enough to walk over for dinner or to spend an afternoon in the town square, far enough away to come home to quiet. That’s the configuration I’d recommend to anyone who asks.
I’ve watched guests walk to Seaside for the Airstream lunch, spend the afternoon in the town square, and walk back along the beach in time for sunset. That’s a perfect day on 30A, and it’s available from Seagrove without a car involved at any point.

Is Seagrove Beach better than Seaside?
Better is the wrong frame. Seaside is better if you want a planned community experience, active town square, and curated architecture within walking distance. Seagrove is better if you want a quieter beach, a more residential feel, and to be close enough to Seaside without being in the middle of it. After nearly two decades in Seagrove, I’d make the same choice again.
Can you walk from Seagrove to Seaside?
Yes — about fifteen to twenty minutes on foot along the road or along the beach. By bike it’s five minutes on the Timpoochee Trail.
Is Seaside worth visiting?
Absolutely. Even if you’re staying elsewhere on 30A, spend at least one afternoon in Seaside. The architecture is genuinely interesting, the food vendors are good, and the beach pavilion is beautiful. It earns its reputation in person.
